Mummy: the hard mode


I had a lot of fun developing this game for Ludum Dare, but, unsurprisingly, 48 hours wasn't quite enough time to learn a new framework (rot.js), create a game, and balance it properly. The original version is easy enough that a good portion of people who played it got to a win - and the high scores are all clustered at the very top. In addition, one of the spells (wind) turned out kinda useless.

So, I wanted expand upon this idea a bit, and make a game that presents a real challenge without changing the mechanics too much. I think making the enemies ranged did the trick - now "blinding" the enemies using the wind is actually useful, and getting a high score is much harder. Other changes in the patch are:

  • Animations for enemies shooting, wind, and exterminate magic
  • You can now restart the game from death screen
  • The wind now truly travels through rooms (previously it just affected anything within 10 tiles)
